Volunteer Position Title

Coach/Assistant Coach/Practice Partner

 

Description of the Mission

We inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.

Girls on the Run' is a positive youth development program which combines an interactive curriculum and running to inspire self-respect and healthy lifestyles in pre-teen girls. Our core curriculum addresses many aspects of girls' development - their physical, emotional, mental and social well-being. Lessons provide girls with the tools to make positive decisions and to avoid risky adolescent behaviors.

 

Brief Description of the Volunteer Position

We need healthy, positive role models with a strong desire to mentor a team of girls; must be able to inspire and motivate joyful, healthy and confident girls.

Volunteer coaches will deliver the curriculum 1-2 times a week, for an 1 hour and 15 minute lesson. Lessons cover a broad range of topics targeting young girls like self-esteem, body image and community service, but also incorporates physical activity, games and running. At the end of the 10 week season, volunteers will participate in a community Girls on the Run 5k run with their team.

 

Time Commitment

Time Requirement: Deliver/assist with 1-2 lessons a week (1hr and 15 minutes per lesson); one weekend day for the Girls on the Run 5k run.

 

Additional Requirements

Women or men, 18 years or older
Attend a 4-hour coach training session led by the GOTR staff (New Coaches)
CPR/First Aid certification (recommended/provided by GOTR)
Consent to background check
