Nicknamed “Stride” by Count Basie, Grammy-nominated pianist/vocalist Judy Carmichael is considered one of the leading interpreters of classic swing music and stride piano, the music of “Fats” Waller, Gershwin, and other composers of the Great American Songbook.  Carmichael has performed on numerous TV and radio programs including A Prairie Home Companion and Morning Edition, and been featured on Entertainment Tonight, and CBS Sunday Morning.  She has performed recitals for Robert Redford, Bill Clinton, and Rod Stewart.

Carmichael is one of a handful of musicians who approach jazz from a perspective of its entire history.  She produces and hosts her own public radio show, Judy Carmichael’s Jazz Inspired, talking with everyone from Billy Joel to Seth MacFarlane about their love for jazz and how it inspires them.
